Teachers throng Iganga district Covid 19 vaccination centers ahead of school reopening

School employees who include teaching and non- teaching staff converged in large numbers at different vaccinating centers in Iganga district to get their jab as school  reopening draw close

At kasokoso primary school, where a huge number of teachers waiting to be vaccinated. narrated how they are much concerned  about the increased teenage pregnancy cases asserting that it is as a result long period of school lockdown due to covid 19.

Since the first lockdown in 2020, Iganga district has registered over 1000 teenage pregnancy cases.

Teachers also said that their turn up in huge numbers to get vaccinated is to enable government fulfill their motive of reopening of schools.

Ketu Wilson a teacher at Bukoyo S.S however expressed concern over government decision to first vaccinate only teachers leaving out students.

In a similar way teachers called for more vaccination centers in the district since the set four center were overcrowded which puts their lives at risk of contracting the virus.

According to the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Iganga district, Matende Thomas, the district received a total of 4160 vaccines of AstraZeneca and sinovac types.

Matenda cautioned teachers against dodging vaccination since it’s for the good of their own lives and students.

The district education officer kasadha Abubaker said the available vaccines only targets a total of 3500 teachers

He also reiterated  the RDC’ warning against teachers dodging the vaccination saying those who will miss will not be allowed to access classes.
