Court grants MPs Ssewanyana, Ssegirinya bail on stringent conditions

Masaka High court judge Victoria Kavuma on Monday evening granted bail to the two National Unity Platform NUP legislators who are facing terrorism and Masaka murder charges.

The presiding Judge allowed the application to release MPs Allan Ssewanyana and Muhammad Ssegirinya representing Makindye west and Kawempe North respectively in Parliament at a cash bail of 20 million each and a non- cash bail of 100m for the sureties.

The accuseds’ sureties included MPs Dr. Christine Ndiwalana, Francis Zaake Butebi, Veronica Nanyondo, Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda, Francis Katabazi, and Ronald Walukamba who is a relative Hon. Ssegirnya Muhammad.

Justice Victoria also ordered the accused legislators to deposit their passports with court and report twice in month to the same court.

The accused’s lawyer who also happens to be the Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago raised chronic and grave illness related to kidney disease and hypertension among others as reasons for the bail.

The Two accused legislators and four others, are facing a total of six murder and terrorism cases related Masaka massacres. The four other co accused include Mike Sserwadda, Jude Muwonge, Bulo Wamala and John Mugera.
