The lead pastor for Christian Life Church, Pastor Jackson Senyonga has refuted that he promised young men 73 million shillings to tarnish Pastor Robert Kayanja of Rubaga Miracle center that he sodomized them.
Pastor Senyonga has instead revealed how he was approached by the allegedly Pastor Robert Kayanja’ sodomy victims and how they gave him some evidence of Pastor Kayanja’s communication with them over the same way matter.
In a press conference held at his Church in Bwaise, Kawempe Division, Kavule, Pastor Senyonga said that sometime in 2020 to 2021 a number of young men approached him at his church claiming that they had been sodomized by pastor Robert Kayanja of Rubaga Miracle Centre. And he believes that the boys approached him as a Christian leader who has for several years been outspoken about various ills taking place in some Pentecostal churches in Uganda.
Senyonga said the young men gave him graphic details of what they say transpired, of how they were recruited, lured with money and promises of a better life and subsequently sodomized. They showed him whatsapp communication between one of them with Pastor Robert Kayanja whose mobile number he knew.
“In the said whatsapp messages the young men alleged that Pator Kayanja had sodomized them, that they were injured as a result and required treatment and demanded for money from him. “Pastor Kayanja”. He never denied or contested those allegations and instead sent money as demanded. They also played a phone voice recording of a voice they claimed to be of Pastor Robert Kayanja.” Said Senyonga
He added “ The above, and more especially the whatsapp communication messages and the reaction of Pastor Kayanja thereto was very disturbing and raised serious questions and concerns in my mind as they appeared to lend credence to what the young men were alleging. Moreover this is against the backdrop of the fact that for over 20 years now there have been persistent similar allegations from different persons against pastor Kayanja. Despite that I wanted to give him the benefit of doubt but he avoid all the meeting I requested to him through a few civic and spiritual leaders, letters sent via whats app messenger which were all in the spirit of resolving the matter internally and privately”
Senyonga says he was however, shocked to learn that instead of meeting him as a brother who had in good faith contacted him privately, he had initiated criminal complaint against him alleging that he had conspired with some young men to tarnish his image and or defame him.
“The said complaint was investigated by the Directorate of Public Prosecution DPP which concluded that interactions with the young men who were alleging that they had been sodomized by Pastor Kayanja was in good faith as an elder or shepherd in society or church would, while listening to a child or to sheep with grievances. The DPP’s office concluded that the complaints by Pastor Kayanja against me had no merit and accordingly closed the complaints file.” Said Senyonga
“I am a spiritual leader who is sympathetic about both Pastor Kayanja and the boys who allege that he sodomized them and I want justice to prevail especially in court but it can only be achieved by both sides being given equal consideration. Just like the DPP processed pastor Kayanja’s criminal trespass file, the same way she should process that of the boys insisting that Pastor Kayanja sodomized them as opposed to merely giving one side serious consideration.
While there are likely to be some boys who may want to take advantage of the situation to make money, it is also important for DPP to know that there are also boys who are insisting that they were actually sodomized and deserve to be heard.” Senyonga added.
He further added “Justice Jane Francis Abodo, the Director of The Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) has done great work to administer justice to countless Ugandans in her exceptional, unequivocal and exemplary work and thus only hoped that since these issue has spanned over several decades and has now dragged so many people into the mix, both Pr. Kayanja’s claims against the boys and the Boys claims against him be given a chance for a fair and unbiased trial for the public to eventually know the real truth.”
