UNBS overwhelmed with complaints on water meters, to start verifying them

By Kisaawo Fred

Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is set to start verifying water meters.

This has been revealed by John Paul musimaani the deputy executive director compliance in UNBS saying that the decision is informed by the several complaints received from customers that most of the imported water meters are not accurate.

He revealed this at media center in Kampala on Thursday 20th, May as the country joined the rest of the world to celebrate the world meteorology day under the theme “Measurement for life”.

Musimaami says the theme was chosen to create awareness of the important role Metrology plays in health and well-being of everyone in the country, adding that the health care systems use medical metrology/measuring instruments to prevent, diagnose and treat diseases.

He also called for deliberate effort by the government to provide adequate funding to Metrology field in order to ensure international traceability of all measurements and to build reasonable calibration as well as verifying capacity within Uganda that will support all the key sectors in the county’s economy.
