Police in Mityana District have arrested two staff members of the Electoral Commission (EC) for allegedly illegally issuing 863 voter location slips and 83 voter issuance forms to a student of Mityana Institute of Nursing and Midwifery.

The suspects have been identified as Kazibwe Sunday, an EC supervisor for Bulera Sub-county, and Kasana Fred, a supervisor for Misibe Parish. Police also arrested Kazibwe Michael, 22, a student and brother to Kazibwe Sunday.
According to police, the arrests followed a tip-off received on Sunday by the Mityana Division Police Commander, SP Tyson Rutambika. A good Samaritan reported that an individual had been sighted in Kibati Village, Buswabulongo, in possession of voter location slips and issuance forms.
Acting on the information, SP Rutambika, together with the Mityana District Electoral Commission Returning Officer, arrested Matovu Michael, who was found with the exhibits. During interrogation, Matovu reportedly mentioned the names of his brother Kazibwe Sunday and Kasana Fred, both employees of the Electoral Commission.

Wamala Region Police Spokesperson Lameck Kigozi confirmed the arrests, stating that police apprehended the two EC staff members to aid ongoing investigations.
“We have preferred two charges against Kazibwe Sunday and Kasana Fred—neglect of duty and failure to protect government stores. Matovu Michael has been charged with unlawful possession of government stores,” Kigozi said.
Kigozi further warned members of the public against interfering with Electoral Commission activities, emphasizing that only authorized personnel are permitted to handle EC materials.
