Kauma Sauda Concedes Defeat in Iganga WMP Race, Urges New MP to Sustain Development Programs

By Yusuf Obbo

Incumbent Iganga District Woman Member of Parliament, Kauma Sauda, has gracefully accepted defeat following the recently concluded elections and expressed heartfelt appreciation to the people of Iganga for the trust and support they gave her during her term in office.

Kauma Sauda was defeated by the NRM flag bearer, Mariam Seif, who won the race with 49,198 votes. Kauma Sauda came second with 24,298 votes, while NUP’s Kakerewe Aziza finished third after securing 16,780 votes.

Speaking after the announcement of results, Kauma Sauda described her five-year tenure as one dedicated to lobbying and implementing programs aimed at improving the welfare of grassroots communities. Among the key initiatives she highlighted were “Funa Akamweno Mukulima ni Alibawo,” a program through which she supported rural farmers with modern farming practices, and the Alibawo Health Campaign, which focused on equipping health centres with essential tools and medicines, conducting health camps, and supporting teenage mothers.

Kauma Sauda called upon the newly elected Woman MP, Mariam Seif, to build on the foundation she laid by continuing to advocate for programs that directly benefit the people of Iganga. She specifically urged her successor to push for the upgrading of Iganga Main Hospital, ensure increased budgetary support to cater for the district’s growing population, and to follow through on the establishment of Iganga Central Market, a project she said was already at an advanced stage and awaiting implementation.

She concluded by reaffirming her commitment to the development of Iganga and wished the new Woman MP success in serving the people.
