By Robert Segawa

Security agencies in the Kampala Metropolitan Area have arrested five habitual suspects in connection with the murder of ASP Bagenda Emmanuel, the former Officer in Charge of Ntawo Police Station in Mukono District.

Police investigations reveal that the suspects are also linked to a series of aggravated robberies and murders within the Kampala Metropolitan policing area. During the operation, three firearms and three magazines were recovered.

According to police findings, the suspects participated in the murder of ASP Bagenda Emmanuel on 23rd November 2025 at around 10:00 p.m. The officer was shot dead along the Ntawo–Nyenje Road in Ntawo Cell, Ntawo Ward, Mukono Central Division, Mukono District.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Racheal Kawala said the arrests were made during an intelligence-led operation conducted between 24th and 27th January 2026 in Kiti A Zone, Kirinya Parish, Bweyogerere Division, Wakiso District.

The suspects have been identified as Amutuhairwe Robinson, a discharged former army personnel; Okello Daniel, a security guard attached to Fortebet; Kasango Arafat; Luyirika Joseph Innocent; and Alphonse Daniel.

Kawala added that following interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the murder of ASP Bagenda Emmanuel. Preliminary investigations indicate that the late officer was shot while on patrol after responding to intelligence about an armed robbery in the area.

Police further noted that the suspects admitted to participating in several aggravated robberies, particularly targeting mobile money operators within the Kampala Metropolitan Area.

Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest additional suspects connected to the crimes as investigations continue.
