School Canteen Attendant Arrested After Student Dies in Stone-Throwing Incident

By Robert Segawa

A Senior Three student of Bright Way Secondary School in Kyamasansa, Kassanda District, has died after he was accidentally hit on the head by a stone allegedly thrown by a school canteen attendant.

The incident occurred at around 1pm at the school following a confrontation between the canteen attendant, identified as Namutebi Resty, and one of the students.

According to Lameck Kigozi, the Wamala Region Police spokesperson, the deceased has been identified as Ssemiyingo Ronald, 20, a Senior Three student.

It is alleged that during the confrontation, the suspect picked up a stone and threw it at a student. However, she missed her intended target and the stone accidentally struck Ssemiyingo on the head, seriously injuring him.

According to the school headmaster, Luyima Emmanuel, Ssemiyingo was given first aid at the school before he was rushed to Red Rose Hospital for further medical attention.

However, upon arrival at the hospital, he was pronounced dead, turning the incident fatal.

Luyima subsequently reported the incident to Kassanda Police Station, which led to the immediate arrest of the suspect to assist with investigations.

The police homicide team visited the scene and recorded statements from witnesses.

Further investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances under which Ssemiyingo was struck by the stone and determine the exact cause of his death.
