Police in Kabalagala Division have arrested 14 suspects over alleged illegal dealings in petroleum products following an undercover television investigation that reportedly exposed the siphoning of fuel from government vehicles.

The arrests followed an undercover investigation aired on a local television station, which showed Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and other government vehicles allegedly being siphoned of fuel, which was subsequently sold to illegal fuel dealers in the area.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the arrests were made during an intelligence-led operation conducted on November 2, 2026, in Kitoro and Agip zones, Kibuli Parish, Makindye Division.

The operation involved a search and cordon exercise targeting individuals suspected of illegally siphoning fuel from motor vehicles and selling it to motorists.
Owoyesigyire said 14 suspects were arrested to assist police with investigations.
During the operation, police recovered 192 jerrycans containing suspected fuel residues, 16 containers of suspected fuel, 24 fuel-siphoning tubes, two motorcycles and three motor vehicles.

All the recovered exhibits and impounded vehicles were taken to Kabalagala Police Station for further examination.
Police also collected samples of the suspected fuel for forensic analysis to establish its composition and determine whether it had been contaminated.
Owoyesigyire said the suspects are being investigated for allegedly dealing in petroleum products without the required authorisation certificates.

“Investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as necessary,” he said.
Police have continued to warn individuals involved in the illegal handling and sale of petroleum products that such activities are subject to criminal investigations and prosecution.
