NSSF: Minister Amongi speaks out on bribe allegations leveled against her

The minister of gender, labour and social development Hon.Betty Amongi Ongom has distanced herself from the 6bn shillings “bribe” from the National Social Security Fund ( NSSF).

Recently, the chairman of the National Organization of Trade Union (NOTU) Usher Wilson owere pinned minister Amongi for allegedly requesting 6bn for her own use without accounting for it.

Addressing the press at the Uganda Media Center, minister Among clarified that she approved a budget of 220bn in this financial year the for NSSF operations of which 6 billion will be spent on the implementation of the NSSF amendment act that is intended to expand social security coverage, ensure compliance and other obligations of increasing coverage from the current 1.3m members to 15m by 2025 among other obligations.

Among revealed that on Tuesday, they met with Owere and deliberated on same matters since he had been misinformed.

About the ongoing investigation of various officials in NSSF by the office of the Inspector General of Government ( IGG), Amongi said she divulge into the matter since it is being handled by IGG and her role is to give direction to the fund.

Currently, IGG’s office is investigating into  allegations of abuse of office , corruption and mismanagement of NSSF funds by the former executive director Dr.Richard Byarugaba.
