The Kabaka of Buganda has launched the Ssentema housing project as part of the celebrations to mark 30 years of him (Ssaabasajja Kabaka Ronald Mutebi II) on the throne.
The housing project which so far comprises 114 houses (all taken) is a realization of Kabaka’s vision to build affordable houses for his subjects to help them stay in a well-planned environment in order to improve their quality of life. (More houses are to be built in that regard.)
At the function, Kabaka thanked Buganda Land Board for actualizing his vision of building his people affordable houses. He also thanked GUOJI for partnering with Buganda in building the houses. He called upon other partners to partner with Buganda. He asked those who were going to buy the houses to maintain them well.
He emphasized that good housing is a human right and that leaders have to ensure it. He thanked Wakiso chairman Matia Lwanga Bwanika and his district for fighting against environmental degradation and asked them to also build affordable houses for wakiso people. He ended by thanking Buganda Land Board again for the work well done and also Busiro residents for Amakula (gifts) they brought to him.
At the same function, the Katikkiro of Buganda Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga asked the people of Busiro to work hard to bring development in their area since it is endowed with easy access to the market. He thanked Buganda Land Board, Ssebwana, and the people of the area who welcomed the development. He asked more people to come and buy the houses.
The chairman of Buganda Land Board which identified the land, did the physical planning of the place on which the houses have been built thanked Ssaabasajja Kabaka, Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga, for their guidance during the course of building the houses. He also thanked Ssebwana, RDC, LC V of Wakiso, and different government agencies for the support in due course of the project. He said that Buganda Land Board will continue to identify land, plan it well, and have it developed to the benefit of Buganda.
