NUP’s Bobi Wine, entire campaign team arrested in Kalangala Island

By Kabuye Ronald

Police and military police have arrested National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine together with entire entourage team in Kalangala Island.

The security personnel only spared journalists who they instructed not to follow them to what destination they were taking the arrested people.

However reports coming in indicate that efforts are under way to airlift Bobi Wine back to Kampala.

However, Police has urged the public to disregard the information of Kyagulany’s arrest saying he is just being restrained from holding mass rallies while his team is arrested for deflating police vehicle tyres.

”Please disregard false claims by NUP and other social media platforms that Hon.Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert has been arrested, while on his campaign trail in Kalangala District.

We would like to clarify that the candidate was restrained for continuously holding massive rallies amidst the increased threats of coronavirus, in total disregard of the Electoral commission and Ministry of Health guidelines. He’s being transferred to his home in Magere, Kampala.

Part of his advance team, captured on Cctv cameras and several video footages, while deflating tyres of police motor vehicles , inciting violence, obstructing police officers on duty, violating the health and safety protocols and various traffic offences, have been arrested for further statement recording.” Police wrote on their website
