By Kabuye Ronald

Uganda police force has refuted allegations of torturing National Unity Platform (NUP) presidiental candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine’ singing partner Ali Buken alias Nubian Li and head of his private security body guards Edward Ssebuufu alias Eddie Mutwe.

Nubian Li and Eddie Mutwe were arrested along with over 90 other Bobi Wine campaign team in Kalangala Island on Wednesday and detained in Kalangala police and Masaka police stations according to police for allegedly deflating police vehicles.

On Saturday, social media was awash with a photo alleged to be of Nubian Li in critical condition which police has come out to refute in the statement on their official website.

“We would like to refute the false propaganda that photographs of alleged torture, spread on social media are of two suspects namely; Ssebuufu Edward alias Eddie Mutwe and Buken Ali alias Nubian Lee, who are in police custody in Masaka. We believe the accounts of torture are fabricated to taint the image of the forces and also capture media headlines.

We would like to disproce these sickening allegations by sharing images of the two suspects, that were obtained today while lifting their fingerprints. It is a lawful procedure undertaken when suspects are being processed for court and for future criminal record purposes.
We remain committed to observing the rights of all suspects, even when in custody.
Our Cyber Crime unit has taken interest in the FAKE posting and will ensure the culprits are identified and brought to justice” read a statement

It should be noted that Bobi Wine has come out to indicate that the detained have been denied access to  lawyers, doctors and family in addition to being tortured.
