With just 6 Days to the Elections, CCEDU/NICE-U in partnership with the UN Women has been on a voter mobilization and voter education spree in Gulu, Bweyale, Oyam, Omoro and Nakasongola districts.
In Gulu, the voter mobilization campaign dubbed Omulembe Gwa Digito attracted over 50 students who were sensitized on how to vote. Apart from the students, CCEDU mobilized boda- boda youths and encouraged them to do peer-to-peer voter mobilization and education on the best way to poll.
According to the coordinator CCEDU Charity Ahimbisibwe Kalebbo, the youngsters were educated on the value of their vote and how to cast it. Apart from the youth, the voter mobilization campaign was also taken to market women in Gulu, Bweyale, Oyam, Omoro and Nakasongola. The women were told they are the majority voters and should not relegate their right to vote because every vote counts.
UN Women supported CCEDU/NICE-U to mobilise women and youth to participate in the 2021 Electoral processes. In view of this CCEDU/NICE-U crafted a voter mobilisation campaign that encourages largely youth and women to turn up in big numbers and vote on January 14, 2021. The Campaign encourages youth and females to find information on their phones, the internet, radio, TV and generally participate safely in the 2021 General Elections.
Uganda will hold Presidential and parliamentary elections and later hold special Interest Group and local Government Elections. Out of the 18,103,603 million voters, 75% are aged between 18 – 35 and this category of voters are impressionable and the majority are on the internet and have phones.
