James Mubiru: NUP breaks silence on his alleged “death”

By Hannah Marion Namukasa

The National Unity Platform (NUP) has broken silences on the viral news on social media alleging that their Lubaga North councilor elect to Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) James Mubiru was killed by the state.

According to the communique put on his official twitter handle, the NUP spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi says that though Mubiru has been missing for two weeks and his whereabouts is not known but they cannot confirm his death.

“Apparent death of James Mubiru.James has been missing for days, and we’re still trying to establish his whereabouts. We suspect he’s in the hands of the state&demand that he&others who are missing be produced dead or alive.” tweeted Ssenyonyi

On Saturday social media was awash with the news of James Mubiru’ alleged death.

Besides being the Lubaga North councillor elect to KCCA, Mubiru is also one of NUP lawyers and mobilizer

Early this week,  NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu asserted that Mubiru was abducted on Thursday last week by machine gun-toting military men hiding behind black balaclava masks.
“I am reliably informed that the military first raided comrade Mubiru’s office in Nakulabye town on Wednesday 10th March 2021 but did not find him there. They kept tracking him until the following day when they ambushed him at Petrocity fuel station opposite Kasubi old Market.
The military men dragged comrade Mubiru out of his vehicle into theirs, and drove him all the way into State House Nakasero as one of our comrades who pursued them from a distance observed. Nothing has been heard of him since then.
Party lawyers have since checked several police stations around the city especially Old Kampala Police Station to see whether our comrade was ultimately dropped there, but the police officers on duty say they are unaware of Mubiru’s case. I understand, however, that his vehicle was towed to Old Kampala Police Station yesterday afternoon.
Mubiru joins several other members, leaders and supporters of the National Unity Platform who are abducted on a daily basis by security operatives led by members of the Special Forces Command, a national security outfit that Mr. Museveni uses as his private army.
Mr. Museveni may pervert all national security forces and institutions to execute his illegal motives, but he should know that the day of reckoning is near. He will not get away with it. No dictator in history ever did. ” wrote Bobi Wine on his office facebook page
