Buganda Premier (Katikiro) owekitibwa Charles Peter Mayiga has urged Ugandans to join the fight against HIV/AIDS and corona virus in order to have a healthy country and people.
The call has been made by Katikiro Mayiga during the scientific celebration of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II 66th birthday at his Mengo palace, held under the theme: Youth take lead in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Katikiro told the gathering that Kabaka’s objective is to have HIV/AIDS eradicated from Uganda and other East African countries by 2030 thus calling upon everyone to take part in its fight by testing, abstaining, being faithful to their partners, those affected to immediately start medication, sensitizing and helping those in need.
He also urged the public to vaccinate themselves against Covid 19, disregard the misleading and false information that the Covid 19 vaccine aims at killing Africans.
Katikiro also called upon Muslim to use the Ramadhan month to pray for Kabaka, Buganda and Uganda.
In the same way, the Vice president of Uganda, H.E. Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi thanked Kabaka Mutebi for guiding and leading his subjects well by coming up with proper strategies that ensure his people are healthy, united and have good relations with non Baganda and the reigning government.
He also thanked God for the protection of Kabaka Mutebi.
On the same event, Kabaka who preferred not to address the Kingdom awarded five people with the precious stone for their outstanding work towards the development of kingdom and country at large.
Those awarded include: prominent businessman and proprietor of Hotel Africana, Dr. Hajji Brahim Muwanga Kibirige commonly known as BMK, Former Kyandodo county Chief (Kaggo) and businessman Toffiri Kivumbi Male Okwezza, renowned traditional musician and dancer Annet Nandujja, Mengo Hospital Dentist, consultant, missionary and American national Dr. Ken Chapman Kigozi and Swico Insurance proprietor Joseph William Kiwanuka.
The event was further used to launch the book about Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s life titled “Mutebi II, Kabaka Omulwanirizzi w’ebyaffe” written by renowned journalist Timothy Mugerwa Ntanda Lukabi.
