The presiding bishop for the Evangelical Orthodox Church (EOC) in Uganda, Jacinto Kibuuka has reiterated his earlier unheeded to advice by government to reduce taxes on all essential commodities.
Bishop Kibuuka is against the idea of giving out food and money to people since a few benefit yet the Covid 19 pandemic hit everyone including those in the most remote areas of the country hence asserting that the only best way to help them is to reduce the taxes on essential and basic commodities which will make them affordable.
“Firstly, I would like to applaud government for giving out money however, instead of giving out money that is being stolen and mismanaged like I heard, they would and should instead have reduced the taxes on essential and basic commodities. This would make the little money people have enough since with it they can then purchase their needed commodities and food stuffs due to their affordability.

I heard 6000 people got twice the covid relief, surely that’s so embarrassing, were you asleep, government, what went wrong?! The idea of reducing the tax would make life better for everyone as opposed to giving out money and food in this period of the lockdown.” Said Bishop Kibuuka
Bishop Kibuuka who made the remarks during the scientific Sunday Divine Liturgy prayers at Mamre International Prayer Centre in Janda, Namugongo Wakiso district also urged government to always extensively consult before rolling out such programs.
