Heavy Flooding: 5 feared dead, several missing in Kisoro district

Following a community meeting this morning at Gasiza trading centre in Nyarusiza Sub-County, Kisoro district in Western Uganda, community members have expressed fear after unidentified number of people went missing last night following heavy flooding. 

Water flew from Mt. Mahabura downstream, sweeping many houses and causing destruction. 

5 people are feared dead and bodies are yet to be extricated from the rubble. 

There is a Joint assessment ongoing conducted by Uganda RedCross, UPDF, the Police,  District Disaster Management Committee (Kisoro DDMC) led by the RDC.

Due to flooding, a number of houses have been destroyed, some are submerged and some roads have been made inaccessible due to heavy stones, and mud. 

The Red cross team continues to work alongside the community and Government Responders to support the affected community.

This according to the statement released by the Uganda Red Cross.
