Speaker Jacob Oulanyah dead, President Museveni confirms

The president of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has confirmed the death of the Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah.

The president made the confirmation through his official twitter account.

“Countrymen and Countrywomen. It is with a lot of sadness that I announce the death of the Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah, the Speaker of Parliament.” Tweeted Museveni

President Museveni said got the information on sunday at 10:30am.
“I got information of this sad news at 10.30am, East African time from People that have been with him and the doctor that was caring for him in the intensive care unit.”

The late has been battling unknown illness in Seattle USA where he has been announced dead.

President Museveni who is also the chairperson of the national Resistance Movement (NRM) eulogized Oulanyah as a good cadre.

“He was a good Cadre. I delayed the announcement so that his children would be informed first. May His soul rest in eternal peace” Museveni further tweeted

when news of  Rt. Hon. Oulanyah death speculations spread on Tuesday Night, Mr Chris Obore, said that some people had ‘hacked’ into Wikipedia and edited the profile of Speaker Jacob Oulanyah.

Mr Oulanyah was last seen in Parliament in December 2021 and by that time, he had only chaired a few sessions including the passing of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Bill, which permitted the mid-term access to members’ savings. He was elected into the speakership position in May 2021.
