Over 1,348 suspected cattle rustlers arrested, more guns recovered

Over 1,348 suspected cattle raiders have been arrested and 11 guns recovered in the operation code named Usalam kwa wotte.

The security forces embarked on a door to door operation which saw them achieve in disarming and arresting cattle rustlers in Karamoja Sub Region.

According to the police spokesman for Moroto AIP Longole Mike a total of 104 suspects from Parts of south Karamoja, Nakapiripirit and Nabilatuk have already been sent to court and they have been remanded  to Namalu Government Prison while Others will appear in court once their files are completed.

On Friday, More11 guns were recovered by joint security forces in Kaabong Nabilatuk moroto , kotido and Napak

According to police the number of suspects  in  custody has today morning risen to 1,348 due to ongoing operations and these await to be  charged with illegal possession of firearms contrary to sec  3 (1) of firearms Act CAP 299 and cattle rustling contrary to section 266 (1) of the Penal code Act.

 Police has expressed gratitude to some area leaders for their cooperation and support to security forces in the operation directly or indirectly citing outthe  LCV Kotido who physically mobilized and handed in one gun to joint security forces recently and LC III for Lotisan.

Police pledged to continue with the cordial relationship with the community leaders to ensure success in the ongoing operations.

Police also urged those with guns to surrender them peaceful before they reach them to avoid what may happen next
