Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among has asked concerned government officials to push for speedy trial of Makindye West MP Hon Allan Ssewanyana and the Kawempe North MP Hon Muhammad Ssegirinya.
She expressed displeasure that the two MPs have spent a year under incarceration, which has debarred their respective constituencies’ representation.
“As the head of the institution, all Members of Parliament here belong to the Speaker. My two members of Parliament make one year in Prison today [Wednesday],” Speaker Among said.
She added: “I request government to hasten trial of these members so that they go back and represent their constituencies. Let’s see how we can have their case concluded.”
In the same vain, Leader of opposition Mathia Mpuuga conveyed his dissatisfaction with the Judiciary over to prosecute the MPs who were arrested in September 2021 over alleged killings greater Masaka.
