Police and Somali Nationals Hunt for a One Ali Mugerwa Accused of Kidnapping Daughter in Forced Marriage

By Our Reporter
Police, alongside Somali nationals, are actively searching for a youthful Ugandan man, Ali Mugerwa, who is accused of kidnapping and allegedly using witchcraft to lure a Somali woman into marriage without her family’s consent. The victim, Aisha Hussein Godah, has been missing for several months, and her father, Hussein Godah, has filed a formal report at the Musajja Alumbwa Police Post in Kisenyi, Kampala, claiming that his daughter was kidnapped and taken away by Mugerwa, who married her under suspicious circumstances.

In an exclusive interview, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed that a case of kidnapping was reported, with the accusation that Mugerwa used witchcraft to manipulate Godah’s daughter, who was betrothed to another Somali man. Godah’s family insists that Mugerwa’s actions are part of a plot to forcibly take their daughter, and that he engaged in deceitful practices to achieve this.

Onyango revealed that Mugerwa had previously been arrested in February 2022 for a similar case of alleged kidnapping, but the situation was resolved through mutual consent between both parties at the time, allowing him to walk free. However, this time, Mugerwa has allegedly disappeared with Aisha for several months without a trace, raising significant concerns from her family and authorities.

In a surprising turn, a family member of Mugerwa, speaking on condition of anonymity, leveled serious allegations against Godah’s family. The source claimed that the Godah family may have been involved in the murder of their brother, Mohamed Kabugo, in May 2022. Kabugo was reportedly stabbed to death in Kyengera, Nsangi Town Council, Wakiso District, and the family suspects that the Godah family might have been behind his killing on mistaken identity, citing their possible motive to eliminate Mugerwa due to cultural differences and his marriage to their daughter.

The family member also accused the police of corruption, claiming that their reports on the matter were dismissed, and their case file had mysteriously disappeared. They also stated that Mugerwa is currently in hiding for his safety but could not confirm his exact whereabouts.

When questioned about the murder case involving Kabugo, Onyango stated that he was unaware of such case but promised to look into the matter. He also appealed to the public for any information regarding the whereabouts of Ali Mugerwa, urging anyone with leads to contact the police.

The case continues to develop, and police have intensified their efforts to locate Mugerwa and investigate the serious accusations surrounding this complex and sensitive situation.
