The Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has petitioned the office of the leader of opposition Mathias Mpunga to intervene in the continued inflated cost of civil works in Kampala.
Kampala capital city Authority is set to kick off the reconstruction of 31 roads totaling to 69kms next month February in the project dubbed Kampala city road rehabilitation project financed by African Development Bank to a tune of 288m us dollars totaling to 1 trillion Ugandan shillings implying that each kilo meter of the road will cost 14.4bn shillings.
Addressing the press at city hall Lukwago said that out of experience he can’t just sit back as the group of cartel continue to inflate costs for road construction at the expense of other Ugandans.
He pointed out the Kampala institutional infrastructure development project in 2020 where KCCA spent 70.5bn shillings to construct Lukuli road in makindye division which is just 7.7km,kabuusu-Bunamwaya -Lweza which is 8.06km costing 93bn among other roads .

Lukwago also revealed that he petitioned the office of the inspectorate of Government and presented detailed information and reports about illicit dealings but no tangible actions have been undertaken.
He added that the group cartels have engaged in dubious transactions in which government has earmarked 380bn shillings to purchase 10acres of land in kisenyi from a one Bosco Muwonge to resettle street vendors something he says that’s it’s a cash bonanza.
However Lukwago declined to reveal names of people who engage in inflating road construction costs.
