In the wee hours of Labor Day, a land slide occured in Butera village, Bughendero parish in Buhurira Sub county Kasese District that led to the death of 4 year old twin female, leaving 2 others Injured, and whole family displaced. 1 dead (4 year old), 2 injured (4 , 6 years old) Survivors have moved to the neighborhood.

The family also lost livestock and have nothing left to them.
The Uganda Red Cross Kasese branch response team is on ground to support the affected community.
Ronald Kanyerezi, Red Cross Branch Manager in Kasese says the branch team is working with the Kasese District Disaster Management Committee to complete the assessment in the affected communities and also advised those in disaster prone areas to access safer places.

“May is known for landslides and floods in Kasese and as I speak, the Local Council leaders in Butera village have advised those in risky areas to evacuate to Buhendero P/S since more landslides are expected.” We are, however, still on ground to offer support to the affected.” Kanyerezi adds.
As rains intensify in other parts of the country, we have activated emergency response services in the various areas through our branch network to work out a robust mechanism of responding, although resources are meagre.

We will however prioritize the most affected and the most vulnerable.
