Why M7 reopened Brig Lukyamuzi’s led Presidential special taskforce on land matters

By Kabuye Ronald

Uganda’s president Yoweri Kagutta Museveni has reopened the Presidential Special Taskforce on Land Matters and Environment headed by Retired. Brigadier General Lukyamuzi Moses Shaban with orders to fight land grabbers who mostly target vulnerable people.

Addressing journalists at the land’s taskforce offices at Mengo, Lubaga division, Kampala Brig. Lukyamuzi who was franked by his team sent a clear message to the land grabbers to quit the business before they go for them since they are more equipped and organized.

Earlier this year, president Museveni had suspended the operations of the Land taskforce which had started in 2021 to evaluate its work which gave space for the land grabbers to gain momentum and carry out the illegal evictions hence prompting the president to reopen it with improved guidelines and instructions.

“Land grabbers are heartless, they attack and evict mostly the vulnerable people like the old and orphaned with an intention of grabbing their land with some using the name of government offices. We are now more organized, equipped with enough military force, lawyers, investigators and staff to back up our operations which are going to be efficiently and conclusively executed.” Said Brigadier Lukyamuzi.

Brigadier Lukyamuzi who highlighted that rampant illegal land evictions in the country are mostly in the central region emphasized that they are to work hand in hand with the various land and security agencies since the positions and orders have been harmonized thus appealing to the public with legitimate land issues to approach their office or call their toll free help line 0393 257002 for help.

Lukyamuzi also clarified that all the land offices still have their powers but the Presidential Special Taskforce on Land Matters and Environment will only intervene where things don’t go well and where there is disregard of court orders however they will not intervene in cases before court.
