FDC terminates its cooperation with Besigye led People’s Government, sends a strong warning to Lukwago’s group

By Olivia Nabaggala

The opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has terminated its relationship with the former party president Dr. Kizza Besigye’s led people’s Government that sits at Katonga Road Kampala.

People’s Government is a pressure group that was formed by Dr.Kizza Besigye working closely with FDC as a defiance measure after losing the 2016 presidential elections.

However the FDC’s National Executive committee resolved to cancel this cooperation asserting that they have faced series of challengesand resistance in managing the two centers of power which has led to a number of conflicts in the party since 2018 leading to irreconcilable misunderstanding and malicious propaganda from those in the people’s government.

This has been disclosed by the FDC party president Eng Patrick Oboi Amuriat during the Monday press conference in which he stated that they have experienced internal conflict accompanied by allegations and counter-accusations that have contributed to considerable turmoil within their ranks hence resulting into negative publicity of the party in the media.

Amuriat said some members of the FDC have chosen to adopt a hostile stance against their own party in complete contravention of article 12 of the party constitution and they continue to posture as legitimate leaders of the party. He thus warned all those posturing as FDC legitimate leaders to stop using FDC headed papers ,use of party symbols, slogans and colors since they are doing it illegally and  they are prepared to take disciplinary action through a well constituted committee on discipline against errant members thus urging them to cease presenting themselves as FDC leaders.

He called upon FDC members to shun such individuals who chose to masquerade as interim or factional leaders in order to cause a split in the party for their own selfish interest since they will not tolerate divided loyalty by any member.

Amuriat emphasized that in FDC there are no divisions contrary to how it has been portrayed in the media such as katonga faction or Najjanankumbi faction since there is only one legitimate FDC.

However, in keeping with the guiding principles in the party constitution chapter 8 (e) that relates to peaceful resolution of conflict they continue to extend an olive branch to FDC members that are posturing as leaders though its only limited to only those holding corporate or life membership cards and those with update membership which will be done on grounds of mutual respect, honest with no insults.

Amuriat further explained that those FDC members whose  membership expires every year and have not renewed it by registering in the village registers can only be supporters and sympathizers and not members which gives them liberty to decide whether they want to regain membership of the party or not.
