Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party has advised the government to be more prepared for the natural disasters given the climate change consequences.

The call comes at a time when Uganda is experiencing a lot of climate change related hardships causing loss of properties and lives.
According to the report released by Uganda National Meteorological Authority recently, the country is yet to receive heavy downpour national wide.
Speaking to the press at party headquarters in Kampala, the head of party media and communications Muzeyi Faizo noted that such Natural disasters like floods among others are as a result of environmental degradation across the country.
He says all rapid response disaster units need to be fully facilitated and deployed to save lives of people most especially in affected areas across the country.
He however singled out the latest experience of river Kafu that burst its bank in Mengo Sub-County in Masindi district, washed away the roads thus leaving it impassible, submerged surrounding villages which left a number of families homeless and destroyed both livestock and crops.
“The immediate challenge now is to deliver vital relief assistance to the affected families especially food, medicine and shelter hence calling for urgent attention. All the rapid response disaster units need to be fully facilitated and deployed to save lives of our people. Much as this responsibility is under the Ministry of Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees as well as the Office of the Prime Minister, this kind of emergency requires a multi- sectoral approach and UPC therefore calls upon Agencies to come in for this noble cause.

To the Ministry of Works and Transport especially its arm of the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), let the reconstruction and design of roads capture the diverse climate change effects which the country and world are experiencing to avoid double work and its related calamities.” Said Muzeyi Faizo.
UPC also called upon all stake holders to invest heavily in preserving our environment. Adding that the country’s forests and swamps are under serious threat of being wiped out thus a need to move in decisively and protect our future generations.
