As the second term of the school year wraps up, Uganda People’s Congress UPC saya the intermission is more than just a pause; since it represents a critical juncture in the academic calendar, shaping both reflections on past performance and preparations for future success.

UPC says for students in candidate classes, including P.7, S.4, and S.6, this period is particularly pivotal. “They are gearing up for mock examinations and the forthcoming Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) tests. This short respite offers a crucial opportunity for rest and reflection before the final push towards these significant assessments”.
Muzeyi Faizo, the UPC Head of Media and communication says that the holiday is not merely a time for relaxation. “For younger students, it is a crucial period for building confidence and gearing up for the upcoming third term, which plays a vital role in their transition to higher educational levels. The new curriculum’s focus on practical application underscores the importance of maintaining engagement and applying learned concepts beyond the classroom.” Said Faizo

Faizo says with over 70% of the national population now comprising students, the holiday period requires careful management to avoid potential pitfalls. “The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) expresses concern over potential negative behaviors that may arise during this break, including drug abuse, early pregnancies, marriages, and child labor. These issues can detract from educational progress and pose significant risks, including health concerns like HIV/AIDS and financial strain”

The UPC urged parents to take an active role in their children’s lives during the holiday. By encouraging participation in constructive activities such as gardening, poultry, livestock keeping, and craft-making, parents can help their children develop valuable skills and maintain a productive routine. The activities not only enhance personal growth but also foster a sense of responsibility and strengthen family bonds.
In a somber note, the UPC extended its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and government for the recent loss of Prof. Kiddu Makubuya, the former Attorney General of Uganda, who passed away earlier this week.
