10 Killed in Head-On Collision Involving Pokopoko Bus and Toyota Hiace

By Robert Segawa

A devastating crash has claimed the lives of ten people, including the driver, after a head-on collision between a Pokopoko bus and a Toyota Hiace on the Fort Portal Highway at Kaihura.

The accident, which occurred on Tuesday night, involved an Isuzu bus with the registration number UBE 807T belonging to the Pokopoko company and a Toyota Hiace with the registration number UBR 812G.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the Hiace, which was hired to transport mourners from Ntungamo to Kyenjojo for a burial, was driven by a driver unfamiliar with the route and operating the vehicle continuously without rest. The Hiace veered out of its lane and collided head-on with the oncoming Pokopoko bus.

Michael Kananura, the spokesperson for Traffic and Road Safety, confirmed that the collision resulted in the tragic loss of ten lives, all of whom were passengers in the Toyota Hiace.

The bodies have been taken to Kyenjojo Hospital for post-mortem examination, while both vehicles have been towed to the station for further investigation.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine the full cause and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
