President Yoweri Museveni, who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has appointed five new Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGP), the third-highest rank in the Uganda Police Force. The promotions are part of the latest reshuffling within the police ranks, aimed at strengthening the force’s leadership.

The newly appointed AIGPs include:
- AIGP Steven Tanui, Director of Fire and Rescue Services
- AIGP Appola James, Director of Logistics and Engineering
- AIGP Nuwabine Lawrence, Director of Traffic and Road Safety
- AIGP Obwona Joseph, Director of INTERPOL
- AIGP Musana John, Deputy Director of Welfare

All five officers were promoted from the rank of Senior Commissioner of Police. The Uganda Police Force’s spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke, confirmed that the promotions and appointments take effect immediately.
In a statement, Rusoke extended congratulations to the promoted officers, emphasizing the significance of the new appointments in ensuring continued service excellence within the force.
