Kawempe police are investigating an aggravated robbery incident that occurred along Bombo Road in Kawempe Division, involving the theft of Shillings 100 million from a businessman. The victim, 49-year-old Fred Tibamqnya, a resident of Kawanda in Wakiso District, had just withdrawn the large sum from Centenary Bank, Kawempe branch, when he was ambushed in a traffic jam by three assailants on motorbikes.

The robbers, armed with pangas, smashed the vehicle’s window screen as Tibamqnya, driving motor vehicle registration number UBN 789W, was stuck in the traffic. They seized a bag containing the money and other important documents before fleeing the scene.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, confirmed that the robbery has prompted a multi-agency investigation aimed at tracking down the suspects. He further revealed that the bag, later found abandoned at Kyadondo Hospital, contained only land titles and other documents, with the money missing.

Police have vowed to provide updates to the public as new developments arise in the case.
In a related incident, Kawempe police have launched a manhunt for three armed robbers who attacked two victims. The first victim, 18-year-old David Karuhanga, had Shs 400,000 stolen from his drawer after the robbers kicked him. The second victim, mobile money agent Bruno Tayebwa, was robbed of Shs 3 million, five mobile phones, and other items. During their escape, one of the suspects fired into the air to disperse a crowd that had started throwing stones at them.
Onyango urged members of the public to be vigilant and to always seek assistance from police and security services when transporting large sums of money to prevent such attacks.
