CID Investigates Illegal Arrests and Torture by Police Officers in Wakiso District

By Robert Segawa
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has opened a general enquiry file (GEF) following disturbing allegations of illegal arrests and mistreatment by police officers at Buddo-Nakasozi Kyengera Town Council in Wakiso District. This development comes after two separate video clips surfaced on social media, featuring a man and a woman who claim that private vehicles are being used by police to abduct members of the public.

In the videos, the individuals assert that those forcibly arrested are taken to the Buddo Junior Police Post, where they are coerced into holding machetes (pangas) for photos. Those who refuse are allegedly subjected to torture while in police custody. The videos also include warnings urging the public, especially residents of Buddo, Kyengera, and Nsangi along Masaka Road, to remain vigilant.

The video footage has further fueled public outrage, with some viewers calling for a protest at the Buddo Junior Police Post to deter such activities. Addressing the media today, Police Spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke confirmed that an investigation is underway to verify the claims. He emphasized that if the individuals in the videos are found to be fabricating the story, they will face appropriate legal action.

Regarding the alleged misconduct of police officers, ACP Rusoke assured the public that the officers involved will be held accountable. He also noted that the Buddo Junior Police Post is currently undergoing renovation, raising questions about the authenticity of the accusations.

In his statement, ACP Kituuma cautioned the public against circulating unverified security-related videos, stressing the importance of accurate information in matters of national security.
