Rose Maina Nyambura, aged 28 and a resident of Bweyogerere in Kampala, appeared before His Worship Tibayeita Edgar, a senior magistrate at Entebbe Court, today.

According to Uganda Civil Aviation spokesperson Vianney Luggya, on March 30th, Rose convinced the driver of a passenger to assist in packing bags for a customer. During this time, Rose’s accomplices, referred to as “dealers,” stole one of the bags belonging to passenger Sconfield Phillip Wolfgang Thomas.
The driver noticed one of the passenger’s bags was missing, but by the time he alerted others, Rose was nowhere to be found. Security operatives at the airport tracked the missing bag, eventually discovering it had been taken by Rose’s group.
Fortunately, the bag was returned to its rightful owner. However, security authorities pressed charges against Rose for theft.

In today’s court appearance, Rose denied the charges, and she was subsequently remanded to Kigo Prison until her next court appearance on April 16, 2025.
This incident comes amid a series of complaints from passengers about missing items at the airport over recent months, including laptops, bags, and passports.
Luggya issued a stern warning to “dealers,” emphasizing that airport security is tight and any individuals caught engaging in illegal activities will be held accountable.
