Uganda Joins ICAO Member States in Global Fight Against Aviation Emissions

Uganda being a member of the International Civil Aviation Organization has joined other member states   in a bid to fight air pollution to preserve the environment.

In an effort to support the global environment protection cause the Director general of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority Fred Bamwesigye met with members of the Air Transport Bureau who deal in airport fuel to come to a desired goal of net-zero aviation carbon emissions by 2050.

Bamwesigye said ” I wish to reiterate that this workshop will kick- off a feasibility study to outline a roadmap for the implementation of Sustainable Aviation Fuels programme in Uganda”.

He added that” I also wish to inform you that ICAO and its member states including Uganda established the global collective aspiration to reduce aviation carbon emissions by 5% in 2030 through the use of SAF and cleaner energies”.

The two-day workshop involves experts providing information and materials that will strengthen the familiarization with sustainable aviation fuels, its benefits, challenges and how Sustainable Aviation Fuels can be produced and promoted. 

The international Civil Aviation Organization has 193 member states that uphold the rules of this organization among them being, promoting safety at the airport by having standby fire extinguishers, providing essential information for air navigation and update irregularly among others.
