Rotary Club of Bwebajja Celebrates Partners, Sets Sights on Maternal and Newborn Health

By Racheal N. Namuli

The Rotary Club of Bwebajja has launched a new initiative to recognize and celebrate the partners who have supported its mission over the years since the club’s founding.

Each Rotary year comes with a unique theme, and this year, the Rotary Club of Bwebajja is focusing on improving government health facilities in Katabi and Kajjansi town councils. The club’s efforts are aimed at enhancing the well-being of newborn babies and their mothers.

According to Hajji Hassan Nyenje, the newly installed president of the Rotary Club of Bwebajja, one of this year’s key priorities is to provide bassinets for newborns in public health facilities. Other major initiatives include environmental conservation through tree planting in several villages, and the construction of a multi-storey classroom block at Kitala Secondary School—the only government secondary school in Katabi Town Council.

Speaking at a celebratory dinner held at Emperor Heights in Kisubi, Hajji Nyenje applauded the club’s partners for their unwavering support. He also extended a call to action to all well-wishers to join hands with Rotary in uplifting the standards of living in Katabi and Kajjansi.

Past District Governor Peace Taremwa (District 9214)

The evening’s chief guest, Past District Governor Peace Taremwa (District 9214), emphasized Rotary’s broader vision of eliminating cancer in Uganda. He highlighted the ongoing campaign to raise funds for a cancer treatment machine (linear accelerator), which would reduce the need for patients to seek treatment abroad.

Among the club’s valued partners recognized for their support were Centenary Bank, BF Suma, Euro Foam Mattresses, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Zazu Africa Safaris, and Stabex International, among others.
