Shocking Tragedy: Three Children Die in House Fire

By Racheal N. Namuli

A heartbreaking tragedy struck the community of Mpala in the early hours of the Friday morning when three children lost their lives in a devastating house fire.

The victims  Namiiro Ella, Namujju Ama, and Tara Fae were reportedly trapped inside their home when the blaze broke out. According to local sources, the children’s mother had locked the door and gone out on an errand, leaving the children unattended.

Neighbors said that the area had experienced a power outage, prompting the family to use candles for lighting. It’s believed that the fire started from one of the candles. When the flames erupted, the eldest child, a 12-year-old girl, made a desperate attempt to save her younger siblings by moving them from the bedroom to the sitting room. Tragically, her efforts were in vain, as the main door was locked from the outside.

The children died of suffocation. Namiiro Ella was reportedly burnt beyond recognition while attempting to escape through a rear bedroom window.

Their father, Renon Kavuma, was away at work in Jinja at the time of the incident.

Mpala police responded to the scene and later transported the bodies to Mulago Hospital for further examination and investigation.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire, as the community mourns the tragic loss of three young lives.
