The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president and former presidential flag bearer Patrick Oboi Amuriat has reaffirmed that the party will give full support to James Nathan Nandala Mafabi as its presidential flag bearer for the 2026 general elections.

The revelation was made on Friday at party headquarters Najjanankumbi Kampala during the flaging off a caravan led by James Nathan Nandala Mafabi to his home land area Mbale to receive what the party termed as blessings from the residents
It is remembered that Amuriat had initially stood against Mafabi, but he later stepped down and endorsed him as the party’s presidential flag bearer for the 2026 general elections following the party’s elders forum meeting held at the its headquarters. Amuriat’s decision to step down in favor of Mafabi was seen by party members as a strategic move to strengthen the party ahead of the heated presidential race and to mount a serious challenge against the ruling NRM party and it’s candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Magabi joins a growing list to presidential contenders, including president Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni of the ruling NRM party, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) of the National Unity Platform (NUP) among others. Mafabi is a seasoned politician and long serving MP for Budadiri West, who the members say brings experience and vision to the party.

Recently, FDC disclosed that its strategy campaign is likely to focus on issues such as economic growth, job creation, healthcare, education, and good governance, among others.
According to Amuriat, they have confidence in Mafabi’s ability to lead the party to victory. He adds that Mafabi went through all the necessary processes to secure the party’s flag for the 2026 general elections
