Busoga East Police Concludes 3-Day Public Order Management Training

By Yusuf Obbo

The Busoga East Police has successfully concluded a three-day training aimed at equipping officers with essential skills in Public Order Management (POM), to effectively handle potential riots and unrest during and after the 2026 general elections.

The training brought together various police units from across the region, under the leadership of regional police officials and commanders from all six districts within Busoga East.

The first batch of the training included 200 police officers of various ranks, ranging from Police Constables (PC) to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

According to Busoga East Regional Police Commander, SSP Senyonjo Abasa, the objective of the training is to enhance operational readiness and build officers’ capacity to manage public disturbances in potentially volatile political situations.

“We are entering the political season, which often comes with increased crime and public disobedience,” SSP Senyonjo said. “Our goal is to prepare officers to professionally handle any situations that may arise during this period.”

The training took place at the Busoga University playground and concluded without any major incidents reported.

Why This Training Was Conducted:

  • To enhance police preparedness for maintaining public order before, during, and after the 2026 elections.
  • To assess the operational readiness of the police force to respond to anticipated election-related disturbances.
  • To identify manpower strengths and gaps across the region.
  • To evaluate inter-unit operational coordination and capabilities.
  • To demonstrate the Uganda Police Force’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful electoral process.

Key Activities During the Training:

  • Physical fitness drills
  • Range and shooting exercises
  • Public order management simulations, including the use of tear gas and riot control shields

This training marks a significant step in ensuring that the police in Busoga East are well-prepared and professionally equipped to safeguard peace and order during the upcoming elections.
