Museveni Pledges Hospital, Road Upgrades, and Free Education in Zombo District During 2026 Campaign Rally

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has unveiled a comprehensive development plan for Zombo District, pledging key investments in health, education, and infrastructure during his 2026–2031 term, if re-elected.

While addressing supporters at a presidential campaign rally held at Zombo Upper Primary School playgrounds, President Museveni announced plans to construct a fully-fledged district hospital and upgrade several health centers across Zombo District. He also emphasized that the few remaining parishes without health facilities are included in the NRM 2026–2031 manifesto, with additional ambulances to be allocated for improved emergency health response.

On education, the NRM candidate reiterated his commitment to expanding access to free, quality education by constructing more government primary and secondary schools in the district. He vowed to eliminate all forms of charges in government schools to ensure universal free education for all children in Zombo.

In a major infrastructure boost, Museveni confirmed that construction of the long-awaited Nebbi–Zombo–Vurra road—a 100-kilometer stretch—will begin in April 2026. The project is part of a broader government strategy to improve road connectivity, particularly by tarmacking roads that link Uganda to its neighboring countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan.

“We have made significant strides in road infrastructure development. This road will not only connect Zombo better with the region but also enhance cross-border trade,” Museveni stated.

He also pledged that all roads will be regularly maintained to prevent deterioration and ensure lasting service to the public.

On wealth creation, Museveni challenged Zombo residents to take ownership of government programs aimed at improving livelihoods. He emphasized that as the government increases funding for wealth creation initiatives, beneficiaries must fully embrace and personalize these opportunities to achieve tangible results.

The President reminded the electorate of key sectors vital for economic transformation, such as agriculture, services, and small-scale industries.

Meanwhile, First Lady Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, who also addressed the rally, urged the people of Zombo to safeguard Uganda’s peace and stability by re-electing President Museveni. She cited the ongoing refugee influx from unstable neighboring countries as a warning sign of the value of peace and good leadership.

“Uganda is peaceful today because of President Museveni’s leadership. Let us not take this for granted. Let us vote wisely in 2026,” she said.

She concluded by calling for unity and patriotism as the country prepares for the 2026 general elections.
