Kitgum Development Boost: Museveni Outlines New Roads, Schools, and Water Projects

By Jumah Kakomo/ Kabuye Ronald

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has cautioned district planners against the uneven distribution of government schools, emphasizing adherence to the national policy guideline of establishing one primary school per parish and one secondary school per sub-county.

This follows his observation that several of the 72 parishes in Kitgum District were allocated more than one of the 88 primary schools so far constructed by the government in the district.

General Museveni reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the effective implementation of free universal education in his next term of office. He also commended the quality of products being manufactured by graduates of the Presidential Industrial Skilling Hubs, saying they demonstrate the success of the government’s skilling initiatives.

The NRM flag bearer further outlined a list of main and feeder roads slated for construction in Kitgum District to supplement the existing road infrastructure. This, he noted, will be in addition to several health facilities and schools earmarked for upgrading.

In another directive, General Museveni instructed the Minister for Tourism to expedite the construction of an electric fence around Kidepo National Park to enhance wildlife protection and community safety.

He assured the electorate in Kitgum District of the government’s commitment to restoring the railway network, improving telecommunication services, and strengthening electricity distribution across the district — extending up to border areas such as Lamwo District near South Sudan.

Museveni also pledged to close the remaining 17% gap in Kitgum’s clean water coverage, which currently stands at 83%, ensuring that every household accesses safe and clean water.

Reiterating his vision for Uganda’s transformation, the NRM Presidential Candidate stated that the foundation for national development has already been laid, and the next phase will focus on making a “qualitative leap into high middle-income status.”

Leaders from Kitgum District — including the District Woman MP Beatrice Anywar, the State Minister for Disaster Preparedness, and Okello Oryem, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs — presented their concerns and requests to General Museveni for consideration in his next term of office.
