President Museveni Urges Ugandans to Embrace Wealth Creation and Interest-Based Politics

By Jumah Kakomo and Kabuye Ronald

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Tuesday evening held a media interaction with journalists from the Teso Sub-region, rallying Ugandans to embrace politics of interest over sectarian politics for the continued unity and progress of the country.

The President emphasized that the NRM’s ideological approach to national leadership has consolidated Uganda’s unity and translated into stronger national institutions such as the Army, Police, and Public Service.

President Museveni explained that non–wealth creators are slowing down Uganda’s overall development aspirations. He highlighted the NRM government’s significant progress in infrastructure development across the country and called on all Ugandans to actively participate in wealth creation through commercially viable sectors outlined in the NRM Manifesto.

He noted that the more wealth creators Uganda has, the more jobs will be generated, emphasizing the importance of investing in commercial agriculture, manufacturing, artisanship, services, and ICT.

On regional development, the President stressed the need to strengthen the East African market and move towards a political confederation, urging the youth across the region to think analytically about their generational mission rather than resorting to riots and instability.

Addressing the cattle restocking initiative for Teso, Lango, and Acholi sub-regions, President Museveni projected that the program will benefit about 1.5 million homesteads, explaining that it is being aligned with government systems and will be implemented in a phased manner.

He also cautioned NRM-leaning independent candidates to reconsider their decisions, warning that opposition politicians might exploit the situation to weaken the NRM and cause both sides to lose out.

On social and economic transformation, President Museveni reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the Parish Development Model, promising possible enhancements to improve its impact.

He advised that demands for new districts should be weighed against their administrative costs and existing service delivery gaps, urging leaders to prioritize using the available resources for development interventions rather than expanding administrative structures.

The President also revealed that he is seeking consensus on enforcing free universal education in all government schools and elaborated on the planned Graduates Fund, describing it as a separate and targeted wealth creation program distinct from the Youth Livelihood Program.

In addition, President Museveni announced plans to establish more demonstration farms near Presidential Industrial Skilling Hubs to guide citizens on best practices in commercial agriculture.

The interaction concluded with the President reaffirming his vision for a united, wealth-creating, and development-focused Uganda.
