Hell broke loose at the High Court on Thursday when Mariam Obeid, daughter of Obeid Lutale, one of Dr. Kizza Besigye’s co-accused, attempted to physically attack Justice Emmanuel Baguma in a furious protest over her father’s continued incarceration.
The dramatic outburst unfolded moments after Justice Baguma declined to refer the treason case involving Dr. Besigye and his co-accused to the Constitutional Court for interpretation.

“You have wasted our time for one whole year! We have been coming here for a year, but you keep reading one script. Is this a theatre? I will speak!” Mariam shouted angrily before being restrained by security officers.
The courtroom descended into chaos as police and Uganda Prisons officers struggled to subdue and eject her amid loud protests and confusion. The presiding judge as visibly shaken as the scuffle intensified.
Sources told this website that Mariam was detained at Central Police Station (CPS) but later released after recording a statement.

Earlier in the session, Dr. Kizza Besigye, Obeid Lutale, and Captain Denis Oola had petitioned the court to refer their treason case to the Constitutional Court, arguing that it raises key constitutional issues requiring interpretation.
The trio were allegedly abducted in Nairobi in 2024 after attending a book launch hosted by Kenyan politician Martha Karua. Prosecutors allege that while in Switzerland, Greece, and Kenya, they held both physical and virtual meetings aimed at plotting to overthrow the Ugandan government in collaboration with operatives based in Geneva, Athens, Nairobi, and Kampala.
They are further accused of failing to report knowledge of treasonous activities between 2023 and November 2024, contrary to Section 11 of the Penal Code Act.
