Mukono territorial police have mounted an intensive manhunt for armed robbers who shot and killed the Officer in Charge of Ntaawo Police Post in Mukono Municipality and injured a junior officer who was with him on patrol.

The deceased, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Baguma Emmanuel, was on duty with a police constable whose identity has not yet been released. According to preliminary reports, ASP Baguma had received information that suspected robbers were moving on two motorcycles, prompting him and his team to set up snap checks in an effort to intercept and arrest the suspects.
While addressing journalists at the Police Headquarters in Naguru, police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said that as ASP Baguma attempted to stop the suspects, they opened fire, fatally shooting him. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while his colleague sustained gunshot wounds.

Rusoke further revealed that after shooting the officers, the assailants made off with the police rifle that the patrol team had been using.
He confirmed that ASP Baguma’s body has been conveyed to the City Mortuary in Mulago, while the injured officer is currently receiving medical treatment.
The police are now appealing to the public for any information that may lead to the recovery of the stolen gun or the arrest of the perpetrators. Rusoke urged anyone with relevant details to report to the nearest police station so that the suspects can be brought to justice.
