The National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has concluded his campaign trail in the Bunyoro Sub-region with a final rally held at Kakeeka Play Grounds in Kakumiro District.

Addressing supporters, Museveni commended the people of Kakumiro District and the wider Bunyoro Sub-region for embracing government development interventions aimed at wealth creation. He cited visible gains in infrastructure, including improved road networks, electricity and water distribution, telecommunications, and oil exploitation programmes, as clear indicators of progress under the NRM government. He urged residents to support the extension of his leadership to consolidate these achievements.

Museveni praised the district for effectively harnessing NRM-initiated wealth creation programmes and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding infrastructure. He announced plans to increase tarmac road coverage in Kakumiro District, specifically the Kisita–Nkooko–Masonde–Ntwetwe–Kiboga road and the Kazo–Burunga–Mpara–Kyegegwa–Kiboga road, aimed at improving the mobility of goods and services for social and economic development.
In the health sector, the NRM presidential candidate confirmed plans to elevate one Health Centre IV in Kakumiro District to a general district hospital to enhance health service delivery. He noted that this decision is based on the wide distribution of lower-level health facilities across most sub-counties in the district. He further outlined the NRM’s broader socio-economic development strategy for Kakumiro District, with a focus on strengthening health and education services.

Museveni also addressed national issues, stating that Uganda’s anti-homosexuality stance had, in his view, become a “blessing in disguise” by encouraging economic self-reliance. He attributed part of the country’s current momentum in industrialisation and wealth creation to reduced dependence on foreign aid following the enactment of the Anti-Homosexuality Law. He challenged the people of Kakumiro, Bunyoro, Uganda, and Africa at large to prioritise wealth creation as a foundation for self-reliance.

The President assured residents of continued government support for wealth creation initiatives and encouraged them to adopt viable commercial enterprises as outlined in the NRM manifesto. He also guided the community on sustainable land utilisation and pledged to strengthen economic enablers for industrialisation and job creation in the district. Museveni highlighted achievements in job creation across commercial agriculture, manufacturing, and the services sector.

Additionally, Museveni committed to increasing funding for skills training as a strategy for job creation, citing the success of graduates from the Zonal Presidential Industrial Skilling Hubs.
Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, who also addressed the rally, highlighted key development strides made by the NRM government in Kakumiro District. She further announced that the President of the National Peasants Party had defected to the ruling NRM, a declaration confirmed during the rally.

The Kakumiro District NRM Chairperson and Minister of State for Transport, Fred Byamukama, presented the district status report, outlining progress and priorities for further development.
