Karuna Wellness Studio and Calabash Spa Join Forces to Promote Breast Cancer Awareness Through “Pilates for a Purpose”

By Musisi Lwanga

SUMMARY: Breast cancer is one of the leading cancers affecting women in Uganda. It is an important public health concern because many patients face challenges accessing early diagnosis, specialist treatment, and ongoing care.

According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), using GLOBOCAN 2022 estimates: 14.6% Of new cancer cases in women, Breast cancer ranked second among cancers affecting women, after cervical cancer.

KAMPALA-UGANDA, The Karuna Wellness Studio, in partnership with Calabash Spa & Salon at Speke Apartments Wampewo, is set to host “Pilates for a Purpose” on Thursday, 24 October 2026. The event aims to raise breast cancer awareness among women, promote the importance of early detection, and support patients battling the disease through a meaningful blend of wellness and fundraising.

Held in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the event will unite wellness enthusiasts, health advocates and community members for a meaningful morning dedicated to promoting physical wellbeing, raising awareness about breast cancer, and inspiring collective action in support of those affected by the disease.

Guided by the theme “Move with Intention. Support with Heart,” the initiative highlights the broader meaning of wellness, emphasising that true wellbeing goes beyond physical fitness to encompass awareness, prevention, emotional support and meaningful contributions to the community.

The event will feature a specially curated Floor Pilates session led by Karuna Wellness Studio, alongside an informative breast cancer awareness discussion facilitated by a medical professional from Uganda Cancer Society. Participants will learn about the importance of early detection, recognising potential warning signs and seeking timely medical attention.

A symbolic pink ribbon ceremony will serve as a powerful expression of solidarity with individuals and families impacted by breast cancer, honouring their journeys and reinforcing the importance of standing together in the fight against the disease.

Beyond awareness, the event is also committed to making a meaningful impact by contributing to efforts aimed at supporting breast cancer patients and advancing the fight against the disease.

Participants will contribute a minimum donation of UGX 50,000, with all funds raised directed to the Uganda Cancer Society to support breast cancer patients.

Karuna Wellness Studio will lead the Pilates experience, while Calabash Spa & Salon, hosted at Speke Apartments Wampewo, will provide the setting for the event, complemented by refreshments, guest engagement and hospitality support.

The morning will also feature opportunities for participants to connect, share experiences and capture memorable moments in a specially curated pink-themed environment.

As Breast Cancer Awareness Month continues, “Pilates for a Purpose” serves as a reminder that awareness must be accompanied by action. By bringing people together through movement and shared purpose, the organisers hope to encourage more conversations about breast health, inspire proactive health-seeking behaviour and extend support to those facing the challenges of breast cancer.

The initiative underscores a powerful message: every conversation has the potential to raise awareness, every act of kindness can inspire hope, and every contribution can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by breast cancer.

The collaboration between Karuna Wellness Studio and Calabash Spa & Salon reflects a shared commitment to holistic wellbeing, demonstrating how wellness experiences can extend beyond self-care to drive positive change, foster community support and create lasting social impact.
