Security heavily deployed in Jinja and Iganga to stop opposition mobilization gathering

By Obbo Yusuf- obboyusuf43@gmail.com

There is heavy security deployment along Jinja Highway and Iganga municipal primary school where National Unity Platform NUP and other opposition political leader’s supporters were meant to gather on Monday.

This follows the united forces of change launch of the national wide tour and campaign to mobilize support.

On Monday morning United Forces of Change supporters were expecting Bobi wine and Kiiza Besigye in Iganga but to their surprise residents woke up to heavy deployments in town patrolling around. The deployment was beefed up with sister force.

According to Iganga Rdc wandera Sadala ,his office received a letter from the Town mayor Bamu Lulenzi informing him about the need to be authorized to gather at Iganga municipal primary school where they expected to host their party president Bobi wine with over 3000 supporters.

Iganga Rdc Wandera said that Nup was not permitted to hold such a big gathering of 3000 people in a small place

“We don’t have enough security to guard the big number we were informed about. We had agreed that they reduce the numbers which they failed to do. We heard that they have mobilized over 3000 people to gather in town yet we have seen the same people on social media planting banana stems in potholes of roads “Said Wandera

Wandera said they cannot allow any kind of protest in town by Bobi wine and his supporters as announced previously by the Opposition to plant the banana stems in potholes of different roads which is a failed deal.

“We also suspect they have the same plans to disorganize our town a reason we deployed heavily to stop them” said Wandera

Iganga’s mayor and Nup coordinator Bamu Lulenzi wondered why police had deployed heavily in town and at the venue they were meant to host their gathering from.

“Today’s deployment is a scare and Nup doesn’t need the protection from police. We assure our people that our president is coming any day from today “said Bamu lulenzi

Bobi wine through Twitter page asked government to use the money always spent on blocking him and on deployment to fix the roads and other social services for a better country.

Bobi wine was expected to be in Iganga today and other Opposition leaders but all plans have been postponed. Though he has not appeared the deployment around town is still tight.
