Christians from the West Buganda Diocese living in the Kampala Metropolitan Area have pledged to actively participate in initiatives aimed at transforming and supporting the development of their home diocese.
The commitment was made during their maiden celebratory fellowship held at Mengo Senior School Chapel over the weekend. The fellowship was presided over by West Buganda Diocese Bishop Gaster Nsereko, who urged the faithful to mobilise resources and support development initiatives in the diocese.
Bishop Nsereko said that although many Christians from the region live and work away from their home areas, they should remain committed to programmes and projects intended to improve the welfare of communities within the diocese.
He called upon them to raise funds to address infrastructure challenges while also maintaining their spiritual connection with the diocese.
In response to the Bishop’s appeal, the congregation jointly launched the Bishop’s Charity Fund, which will serve as a resource mobilisation platform to support infrastructure development and other community-based programmes.
The fund is expected to support initiatives in education, healthcare, water and sanitation, food security and economic empowerment.
An interim think-tank committee was also elected to plan and coordinate efforts aimed at addressing the outstanding challenges facing the diocese.
Held under the theme, “United in Faith, Serving Together,” the fellowship attracted more than 100 Christians, including several prominent personalities from the region.
Bishop Nsereko used the occasion to present a progress report on the diocese since his consecration one year and four months ago. He highlighted the status of ongoing projects and appealed to the Christian community to provide financial and other forms of support.
Former Inspector General of Government, Betty Kamya, who said she hails from Kooki County in Rakai District, pledged to work with other stakeholders to support the development of the diocese.
Kamya said she would help mobilise and encourage fellow Christians and stakeholders to rally behind Bishop Nsereko and contribute towards the diocese’s development agenda.
Bishop Nsereko congratulated the Christians for turning up in large numbers despite it being their first gathering of its kind, and called for continued unity, commitment and collective action in supporting the growth of West Buganda Diocese.
