Opposition Youth Leaders Condemn National Youth Council Chairperson Eyeru’s Alleged Partisan Manipulation

By Jumah Kakomo

The Youth leaderships from various opposition political parties have lashed at the chairperson of national youth council (NYC) Jacob Eyeru over what they call unscrupulous manipulation of youths in partisan projects.

During a joint presser held at the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Party headquarters Najjanankumbi Kampala on Wednesday, the Party youth league chairperson Adepo Francis noted that all along they have been keenly following the activities of Jacob Eyeru and his clique. Adding that last week, their attention was drawn to a letter by Jacob Eyeru to the inspector general of police (IGP) notifying him of the planned activities in June and July 2024 by members of the NRM youth league under the yellow youth movement initiative whose sole objective is to support the leadership and maintaining the candidature of president Museveni as president of Uganda 2026 using MZEEI TULUMBE 2016 campaign moreover on NYC letterhead.

”It should be recalled that this YYM initiative was launched by the same Jacob Eyeru and group with one intention of praising Mr. Meseveni and the NRM Party,” Francis said..

He highlights that as youth leaders, they want to remind Jacob Eyeru that the national youth council of Uganda by law is not a branch of NRM, and therefore must operate impartially while serving the interests of all young people in Uganda, most of whom hate NRM.

“We also draw his mind to the core objectives of NYC which include; to organize the youth of Uganda as a unified body, to engage the youth in productive activities that benefits all, and to protect the youth against any kind of manipulation among others,” Francis added

He reveals that they are concerned because NYC receives tax payers’ money and therefore, the Chairperson cannot be involved in such bogus activities of praising who he termed as an old man that the youth are tired of.

JEEMA youth league chairperson Haroona Musanje says YYM must therefore stop peddling and spreading lies that Mr. Museveni can still manage to run this country effectively. Museveni must instead retire honorably before 2026

“As youth leaders, we call upon all the young people across the country to resist from complying with Jacob;s activities of promoting president Museveni with the aim of enabling him stand again as the next president of Uganda 2026. It is time to stand up as the youths and be counted. Those taking advantage of the same struggling youths to unscrupulously manipulate them in such activities of maintaining the old man in power instead of focusing on their (Youth) welfare should be warned,” Musanje stated.

“We demand for a public apology from Jacob Eyeru and his clique of YYM to the young people of Uganda for disrespecting and betraying his own generation by telling them to support President Museveni who has failed this country. We have given him five working days to apologize and failure to comply, we are to take the next course of action,” Musanje and Adepo said.
