Speaker Among Delivers Shs100m for Bugweri, Bugiri Muslim Community, Urges Unity and Development

By Kabuye Ronald

Four months after pledging Shs100 million for the construction of the Bugweri District Muslim headquarters, Speaker Anita Among has fulfilled her promise, marking a significant moment for the local community. The donation was handed over to Sheikh Sinani Muwanika, the district khadi, on Thursday morning during a visit to Bugweri.

Among had initially made the commitment in April while attending the burial of counsel Ramathan Waiswa, brother of Bugweri County MP Hon. Abdu Katuntu. True to her word, she stopped by Bugweri en route to Bukedea to deliver the funds personally, addressing a gathering of local Muslims at Hon. Katuntu’s residence.

“I made a promise for the good of Bugweri and in memory of the late counsel Waiswa, and I wanted to ensure I kept that promise,” Among stated. She urged the residents of the Busoga sub-region to unite for collective progress. “If we don’t unite, we shall remain underdeveloped. Let us work together for the prosperity of Busoga,” she said.

Among also advised the youth against engaging in divisive social media campaigns aimed at undermining political leaders and the government. “Beware of joining campaigns or protests that you don’t fully understand. The cheers you receive are fleeting, but it’s our parents who bear the brunt,” she cautioned.

In addition to her visit to Bugweri, Among made a stop in Bugiri Municipality, where she met with local leaders and addressed community concerns. She highlighted the need for support and oversight of government programs to benefit local communities and responded to appeals for increased funding to the Uganda Road Fund for road rehabilitation.

Furthermore, the Speaker provided financial support to several Savings and Credit Cooperative (SACCO) groups in Bugiri, reinforcing her commitment to the region’s development.

Sheikh Muwanika expressed profound gratitude for Among’s ongoing support and dedication to the people of Bugweri and Busoga, reflecting a shared sense of optimism for the region’s future.
