Three Arrested for Illegally Securing Ugandan Passports for Drug Trafficking

By Robert Segawa

In a significant crackdown, the Internal Affairs Passport Office has apprehended three individuals, two from Cameroon and one from Nigeria for attempting to unlawfully obtain Ugandan passports with the intent of using them to facilitate drug trafficking across borders.

The arrested suspects include Rahman Adam Borakale, a Nigerian also known as Makenke Rahman Adam, who claims to be of Mufumbira and Muganda heritage. The two Cameronians, identified as Saha Kruz Nimanike, alias Kato Cruz, and his twin brother Saha Juri Konuhi, alias Wasswa Alex, were also taken into custody.

Internal Affairs spokesperson Simon Peter Mundeyi revealed that these individuals had both their national IDs and passports from their respective countries, along with Ugandan IDs. The ongoing investigation has also revealed that they were allegedly aided by an unnamed Ugandan accomplice who is yet to be apprehended.

Mundeyi expressed grave concern over the involvement of Ugandan nationals in this criminal scheme, emphasizing the legal and ethical responsibility to report such activities rather than facilitating them. He highlighted the high regard for Ugandan passports due to their sophisticated security features, which make them challenging to forge, according to international civil aviation standards.

“Despite the stringent security measures in place, these individuals sought to exploit our system,” Mundeyi stated. “Our new machine-readable passports are among the most secure globally, and efforts to counterfeit them are extremely difficult, as confirmed by our colleagues at Nasser Road University.”

The authorities continue to investigate the case, focusing on uncovering additional details and potential accomplices in this illicit operation.
